Having Faith

Did I know of a boxer rescue? The call came from our vet, and I called my resources to find them all full. Upon hearing her story, this dog immediately became part of our “Pug Pal” program. We were her only hope.

Still lactating, she was surrendered to a local shelter. Her jaw was hanging from one side – an obvious fracture and just one of her many injuries. Information obtained revealed her last puppy had just been sold. Weeks before she had been hit by a car. Until now, medical treatment was not sought.

With limited physical resources, she was fighting a massive infection from open wounds left untreated. Numerous reconstructive surgeries left her with only half of her lower jaw. If this wasn’t enough, her pelvis had been crushed.

Soon named “Faith,” she remained at the veterinary clinic for several months before coming to our home to recuperate and begin the emotional healing. While she adjusted to her physical disabilities, we began to gain her trust.

The transformation to date has been miraculous. To see her wiggle with excitement at the squeak of a toy, to complete a meal, to learn to sit, and to above all, fall asleep without fear, are all treasured moments. We now begin the search for the family to continue our role of addressing and alleviating the emotional baggage she brought with her.

While I don’t know where her path will lead, I have indeed been blessed to have this “Faith” in my life.
